1. At the start of every single class, Mr. Rick checked who would be the teacher for today, and it was the first 2 teachers, and in our group, it is the first teacher, Jennifer (optional, because she did well last time (according to Mr. Rick)) and the second teacher, Kimberly!
Then, the lecture begins... Mr. Rick lectured us about the Children in the mills (page 16-19). Poor children... they need to work very hard for long days, and might get hurt, their job is also very hard and super tiring. I mean like seriously, for kids like us, they shouldn't be working their muscles out, they should be relaxing and studying to get more of those cool stuff into their brains! Anyways, it is quite harsh for them to work like that. I feel so bad for them. We get all the advantage to have pencils, pens, rulers, computers, home, parents who care about us, and lots more, but all they got is work, the hard and tiring work. Isn't that supposed to be unfair?
This is Mr. Rick showing us the presentation! It was epic! We understand every single bit of what he lectured!
While Mr. Rick was lecturing the class, the class took down notes! (Such an active classroom isn't it?)
They write notes in section 1 of their coursework file.
2. During the lecture, he lectured us about this:
The cruelness of the mill owners...
They employ children to help them with the mill, it was horrible working there, because they might get hurt and very tired, because their job was to crank up the wheels, so that the factory would run, and if there is something broken, like a thread or something, they will ask the children to get it, and fix it, since they are smaller than adults and can fit in the hole.
This is what it looks like:
Children are also used in Domestic systems (Wanna know what a domestic system is? Visit last class' update!) Why are people so unfair to these kids! I feel like crying now... *sniff* *sniff*
Children are ranked in different classes, like the apprentices, they are free of charge, so they work hard and don't get money, overseers are the ones who work hard and get paid a little, and much more, but I can't mention them here, it would be too full, so I decided just to stop here to let your mind relax a bit.
Children at the mills are often orphans, they are also given clothing and food by the mill owner! They live in an apprentice house near the mills. Other workers were sons and daughters of adults.
David Dale, one of the employer sent out ads to the highland areas of Scotland, where there was poverty and unemployment. He invited full families to come and work for him, many people come, even though some have problems like only being able to speak Gaelic. He provides houses only if the family have more than 3 children in it.
Thanks to David Dale, in 1793, one thousand, one hundred and fifty seven (1157) people work and New Lanark. 795 of the people who worked for him are children. Children cost cheaper than adults.
3. Now, it's the time to teach! Yay!
So, as it was mentioned before, the first teacher to teach in the Cosmos team is optional, because she did it quite good, so there is no need of doing another LDL, but she just do it anyways, just to make sure that she got it right!
This is what it looks like when Jennifer teaches the team:
Then, after 5 minutes of teaching the team, Mr. Rick says: "TIME!", and we all stopped teaching and try to catch our breath! oh my goodness... it was so quick! Well, anyways, the next teacher teaches the team, and it's Kimberly!
This is what it looks like when she teaches the team:
While she was teaching the team, the team members take down notes, and this is what it looks like:
Also, Mr. Rick moves around the class and grade the teachers who are teaching, and this is what it looks like when he wonders around...
(Well... he was grading us, and then... when he saw the camera flashing, he posed like that. XD)
4. On what we can do better next time is not to be afraid to get pictures for the blog, because it is like what we do in history class... Don't ever do something like in picture 5, it looks bad in the blog, but if you're shy... then we can't do anything, but to try!
Hope you guys like this update, and May the Lord your God Bless you!
