1. Today, we start to go back to our normal schedules, no more horse-playing or stuff, just back to business! So, Mr. Rick starts the class by lecturing the class on today's topic from page 2-15 (Britain 1750-1900: what changed?, Why did business grow?, The Darbys of Coalbrookdale and What made Richard Arkwright successful?) Wow! There are lots of topics, and Mr. Rick has to lecture all those things in 20 minutes, you know why? Because if he lectures for more than 20 minutes, he must pay to the treasurer Rp.5000, because he broke the rules (essentials), which is called an infraction. You guys might be wondering... "Why does he get to pay to the treasurer for just breaking the rule?". It is because we made an agreement to pay the treasurer Rp. 2000 for students and Rp. 5000 for the facilitator/mentor/teacher. Then, the money that is collected will be used for the pizza party! Yay! I hope you guys get it! Anyways, let's get back to the topic, so where were we... oh right! Mr.Rick managed to get his lecture done in less than 20 minutes, because he didn't read the text in the powerpoint at all, he just gave us the main points, and he said it from his guts! Wow! That made things a lot easier! Does it? Well, that's how we're suppossed to teach the members in our team, but just in 10 minutes, not covering the topics from the textbook, but from our BHQs! It's way easier and more fun that way, and yet... we get more knowledge. The textbook is just like a funnel, and the knowledge out there is like an ocean. Then, when we just read the textbook, we only get little drops of knowledge, but if we try to explore the world around us and get curious, we will get more knowledge! Yippee!
2. The topics for this whole semester will be super boring (Mr. Rick told us that), so we have to cooperate, and learn it well, there is no other choice anyways! This unit, we are talking about the Industrial Revolution!
This is what it looks like when Mr. Rick told us that it is super boring! He got hand gestures all over the class, I mean... seriously!
He talked about the changes in 1750-1900, they are the change in population, work, health and medicine, transport, culture and politics. As time goes by, it increases and gets better and better!
While Mr. Rick is lecturing the class, we listen to him, and pay very close attention! Some even write notes!
One member of the team write notes in section 1 of her coursework file!
Britain 1750: The population was only 21000000. It is so little, because there is a low birth rate and a high death rate. Many babies died before their first birthday. People are totally clueless about Germs and bacteria, and had no healing aid for it. The most important industry was farming, because things aren't automatic yet, they use steam engines, so factories and stuff like that are powered by the steam engine. Getting around the country was a slow process. People usually walk to go to places.
People in those days use the domestic system, so if you want to build a wagon, you need to ask one family to make the wheels, another make the seat, the other make the planks, etc. then, after they make all those stuff, they give it to the person that orders it, and pays for it. Then, they assemble it, and the wagon is done! Wow! A great thing to do, it's what we call "Lé Domestic system" Nah! Just kidding, it's just the domestic system!
Britain 1825: The population doubled! Some babies die before their first birthday, but families are huge. Some germs are already discovered, so there are some medicines produced at that time! This time, the domestic system is getting better, you ask someone to make something for you and ask the demand, and if it is higher than your supply, the price of the thing that you are making later on will be more expensive too, but if it's lower than your supply, than, the price can be lowered, to make it cheaper!
Britain 1900: The population doubled again, many people now go to school, and many disease and germs are discovered, and their medicines are discovered too! There are turnpike trusts, they are made to speed up the process of traveling around the country, but they toll you for using it! Wow! Britain got better so incredibly quick! This is unbelievable!
3. Then, Mr. Rick did his usual thing! He bangs the table, and said:"Teach!" Then, we need to respond:"Okay!"
We started to teach, and this is what it looks like:
After 10 minutes of teaching the team, Mr. Rick said: "TIME!" And we all stopped teaching each other! Then, we listened to Mr. Rick! Mr. Rick told us that most of the teachers that thought for today had bad results, and he is making us do it again for next class. He said that he doesn't want us to get zeros on our very first teaching, and this kind of thing is very rare, so we've got to do our best!
4. On what we can do better next time is to try and listen Mr. Rick's lecture, and take notes.
Hope you liked this update! God Bless you all!
