Week 2, Class 2 (Tech Week)

This is the last week for "tech week" And next week is Lebaran Holiday! Yayyyyy! Finally, it's time to rest, but as soon as we come back on the 11th, we will get serious! *aaaaaa*

1. Today, Mr. Rick lectured us on how to make our presentations properly. We have to make our own BHQs! Do you guys wanna know what a BHQ is? If you want to know what a BHQ is, then I'll tell you what it is. It's a Big Hairy Question! Wow! What a scary word...

Haha... Just kidding... It's just questions that you are wondering so much and you're really dying to figure out what the answer to the question is. For example: How does a stapler work? I mean, we use staplers in our lives, but do we really know how it sticks documents together? Seriously... these questions are worth asking for. Like why can a teeny tiny mustard seed grow into a huge tree? See... if you think about things deeply, you will be able to ask millions and millions of questions. Like on how a pen works... Trust me! People are like that. Albert Einstein said: "Everybody is a genius, but if you judge a fish by its ability to climb a tree, it will live its whole life believing that it is stupid".

2. Mr. Rick proved us that if we understand stuff from the past, we will be able to remember it 42 years later, and he recited the play that he did when he was little. The scene that he acted out was from act 2, scene 2! And it goes like this:

  [Enter ROMEO.]
      ROMEO
1   He jests at scars that never felt a wound.
3   It is the east, and Juliet is the sun.
4   Arise, fair sun, and kill the envious moon,
5   Who is already sick and pale with grief,
6   That thou, her maid, art far more fair than she.
  7   Be not her maid, since she is envious;
8   Her vestal livery is but sick and green
9   And none but fools do wear it; cast it off.
10   It is my lady, O, it is my love!
11   O, that she knew she were!
12   She speaks yet she says nothing; what of that?
13   Her eye discourses; I will answer it.
14   I am too bold, 'tis not to me she speaks.
15   Two of the fairest stars in all the heaven,
16   Having some business, do entreat her eyes
17   To twinkle in their spheres till they return.
18   What if her eyes were there, they in her head?
19   The brightness of her cheek would shame those stars,
20   As daylight doth a lamp; her eyes in heaven
21   Would through the airy region stream so bright
22   That birds would sing and think it were not night.
23   See, how she leans her cheek upon her hand!
24   O, that I were a glove upon that hand,
25   That I might touch that cheek!
 25                                                 Ay me!

He actually remember all of it, well, maybe not all of it, but most of it, and then Mr. Rick ask us to grade him, and we gave him a 97%, well, our team doesn't agree on that and said his grade was supposed to be 99.99%, cause he remembers most of them!

3. After that, Mr. Rick ask us to continue our coursework file, and if we aren't done, we'll do it for extra homework, because the real homework is Section 3 of the coursework file, which is from page 2-15. Wow! That's some major work! But, at least we have lots of time to do it, we could also do it on the holiday! Isn't that great?

4. On what we can do better next time is to do assignments more quickly!

Thanks for reading guys! Blessing!

Week 2, Class 1 (Tech Week)

We learnt something new! Not from the book, but just from Mr. Rick to improve our learning skills, since this week is still tech week!

1. The whole class went in the History room on time, so no one was late, in fact, many of us were too early for class, so we chat a little, and as soon as Mr. Rick comes in the class, the whole class becomes quiet. Then, Mr. Rick directly ask us to make a coursework file. It is used by all the Historians (students in history class) to take down notes, we don't write notes in our notebook anymore, we write them in our laptop, and particularly in the coursework file. Mr. Rick showed us how the coursework file is formatted and this is what it looks like:

2. Then, we started making the coursework file and filling them out. We started the coursework file from Week 1, Class 1 until today, which is week 2, Class 1. It wasn't a lot of work, especially for the 1st day, we just wrote NO CLASS!

Simple right? We the next one, we just wrote the rules of the class, and this is what it looks like:

Then, for today, we wrote about the inquiry wheel. But before that, Mr. Rick asked what IBL mean, and then, one member from the Cosmos team answered that IBL means inquiry based learning. Then, mr. Rick ask s t search the inquiry wheel created by Kath Murdoch, and it came out with lots of color and it means a lot for us. It is so cool, it's just like a scientific method.

Mr. Rick is planning to print out these inquiry wheel and laminate it, for each group to have one. *wow*

3. We made the coursework file, and for those people who aren't done with their coursework file, it will be given for homework. So, the faster you are done with the coursework file, the lesser homework you will get.

4. On what we can do better next time is to work faster!

Thanks for reading today's post and hope you enjoyed it.
Blessings! :)

Week 1, Class 2 (Tech Week)

This is the first week of school, and it is technically allotted for "tech week" So we get to know each other. We also get to know our four packs! Isn't it great?

1. Mr. Rick starts the class off by showing the four pack teams on the screen, and we are asked to go to our four packs, We all got up, and reached to the groups, there are reasons for it to be called "four-pack"... Four-pack means that there are 4 people in one team! We are in the Cosmos team! We called ourselves the Winter team. You know why it's called Winter? Because... Winter is cold, fun and mysterious, we can change the plain old snow into a beautiful snowman, just like History! History is fun! There are also some mysteries behind them. We can turn the mistakes from History into a something new, like in the past, Marie Antoinette used to say: "Let them eat cake!" to the 1st and 2nd classes, leaving the 3rd classes without cake, even worst, they don't even have bread, so they got kind of jealous, and they started the French Revolution! See, it's just because of the phrase "Let them eat cake" and there are lots of killing in French... So, nowadays, people are more generous to others and treat people fairly! At home, we have nannies, but we treat them as family, we feed them with the same food like ours, in fact, sometimes, we give them more food than we give for ourselves. We put Jesus first, others second and ourselves last. That's how we have to treat people.

2. We also try to remember the rules we did from Grade 7, there are 5 rules, and we only memorized them on the first 2 weeks of school, and we can still remember them, there are also hand gestures included with them. So, these are the rules:

  • Follow directions quickly (Make wavy hands)

  • Raise your hand for permission to speak (Do a talking hand)

  • Raise your hand for permission to leave (Point backwards using your thumb)
  • Make smart choices (Point to your head)
  • Always make your facilitator happy (Point your cheek and smile)

(A heroic doll named Poohy volunteered to get the shot! Thanks!)

We can still remember these rules from last year, because our hands are involved and we don't just memorize it, we also understand them deep in our guts! This is amazing! Can you imagine, if we can remember everything so easily, we would save time for studying, and do other stuff, like reading the Bible, helping our parents and much more, we could also spend more time with God. This is epic!

3. We planned to write the class essentials next class, but we aren't sure yet. We just hope that we can do it, for the Bible says that "I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me." Philippians 4:13.

4. We can try to make the class more active, and try not to be shy when the facilitator a.k.a Mr. Rick, ask us to do stuff.

Week 1, Class 1 (Tech Week)

Hello Everyone, welcome to our blog! This blog will be filled with History stuff! Not really History stuff, it's stuff we do in History Class!

1. Today is the first day of school, well, not technically the "first day of school"... I mean it is the day where parents get to meet the teachers and talk to them. So, we don't have school, we will have it tomorrow! Yay! Can't wait!

We also get a chance to look at the classrooms! Isn't it great? It's also rather fun to figure out that our teacher is Mr. Rick!

2. There was no discussion today, because we haven't had History class!

3. Isn't it great? After a very long summer break, we're finally back here at school. We are very excited to start this academic year of 2014-2015. I can't imagine that we are in Grade 8 now! We started this year's History class by a simple introduction. We elected the Admin team, and the way we did it is by writing your vote into a piece of paper and give it to Mr. Rick. The one that gets the most votes will be Admin 1, and the second most votes will be Admin 2. Other than that, we studied the team routines. Which is exactly the same thing as the one in Grade 7. Each member in the team needs to teach the team members each week. This was also an amazing thing to do.

4. The team's performance wasn't bad, but we can try to get more active during classes, so that it can be fun.

Portfolio Rubric

You guys wanna have the portfolio rubric? So... Click here to look at the portfolio Rubric!

Hope that you guys enjoyed it! And the method to get a high grade in for this project is just to simply follow the rubric, and read it, and try your best to fulfill the request to get a 4 point in everything (Rockin' ones!)

Topics needed to be written in the blog daily!

Each day, we will have pictures and graphics of the day's work as well as text covering these topics:
1. What was the topic of the day and what important parts were learned? Demonstrate understanding and application.
2. Critical thinking: was there a discussion? BHQ? Give an analysis and evaluation, compare and contrast the scenario and find the evidence of it happening elsewhere? Demonstrates analysis and evaluation.
3. What was done and how was it assessed?
4. How was the team's performance? What can be done to improve (How are we implementing KaiZen)
